These kinds of posts pop up in Facebook wedding groups all the time.
“My wedding is in a few days/weeks/months, what am I forgetting to do?”
Well, I’m here to help! Here are the most common things that couples forget to do before or bring to their wedding day.
- Emergency kit
- Deodorant
- Baby powder (my fellow thick-thighed ladies get it)
- Flats for when you’re done wearing heels
- To print wedding programs
- Cake plates, forks, cake knife
- Suit pants. I’ve seen many dads somehow forget their suit pants.
- Assign helpers. Example: cake cutting, guest book attendant.
- Designate someone to take gifts to a specified location
- For summer weddings, bring a cooler with drinks during photos
- Marriage license (yes, this happens often)
- Rings (also happens often)
- Phone charger
- Cash tips or payments for vendors
Other helpful tips:
- How to pee in a dress: hike the dress up, you may need help with this depending on your dress, and then sit on the toilet facing the wall. This way the back of the dress can’t fall in the toilet, and your bridesmaids don’t have to hold the dress up for you.
- If you’re having different centerpieces for tables, set them up beforehand to see how you like it and then bag the set up. This way, people know that the centerpiece is in that bag. You can even include a photo of the set up so others know how to recreate your vision.
- Assign a point of contact for vendors that is not you. Choose a helpful (maybe type-A personality) friend or family member to handle any questions so you can focus on enjoying the day.
- Set intentional time to eat food and cake. People always get too busy and forget to eat or drink. I barely drank anything at my reception because I got so caught up in talking with all our guests, I was SO dehydrated.
This isn’t a checklist for things to bring, it’s to help you see what most people forget and help you make sure to focus on remembering these things.
I hope this helps and you won’t be feeling the “what am I forgetting” feeling like so many other couples experience.
