Aspen and Thor chose downtown Wichita and Chisholm Creek Park for their engagement session. The weather put up a fight with us, we had to reschedule a couple times. Spring in Kansas is basically just days and days of rain, so thankfully it took a break for us. Overcast days are perfect for photos, no harsh light situations and it makes all the colors pop.
Aspen and Thor met at Newman University. Thor came from Pennsylvania for Newman’s wrestling and nursing programs. Aspen chose Newman for nursing and bowling. With Newman being a smaller school, they had classes together and ended up in the same clubs on campus. They built up the strongest foundation for a relationship over the first few years, becoming good friends. In March 2019 they finally started dating. The two of them now work as nurses and are very involved with their church.
The session was so much fun. Aspen and Thor both have fun-loving personalities so the whole session was so full of energy and love. On their engagement session questionnaire, Aspen mentioned they were both enneagram 3’s. It’s the first time I’ve had a couple be into the enneagram like I am. I honestly might start asking all of my couples if they know their enneagram. It helps understand what they might need from me, maybe more reassurance as a 4, or help to achieve their wedding goals as a 3. I definitely felt the 3 energy from Aspen and Thor, the achievers.
We started our session in downtown Wichita. The streets of Old Town are a beautiful backdrop for engagement sessions. But I really love the parking garage we went to. They had the upper levels blocked off so we couldn’t drive up and instead took the stairs. I should start warning my couples that their engagement session may be a bit of a workout. The view at the top was so worth it and helped make some of my favorite photos. There’s tons of cool spots in downtown Wichita for an engagement session, but Old Town is by far my favorite.
We ended the session in Chisholm Creek Park. It had been raining for a few days so some areas were a little swampy. Luckily, most of the paths are paved so we weren’t in the mud too often. It took some exploring to find a dry enough spot in the open field, but we found the perfect area. The clouds gave such a dramatic look and made Aspen’s red dress pop so well. We even had some deer come through at the end of the session!
Chisholm Creek Park is my favorite spot in Wichita for engagement sessions. Check out this summer engagement session at the park.
