Mariah and Robert chose to go ice skating for their engagement photos because it’s an activity they often do together. They go often enough that they have their own skates so they don’t have to use busted rental skates.
We started the session at Liberty Memorial because they wanted to showcase the city. Mariah isn’t from KC, she said is excited to move to a big city. Of all the big cities, I think Kansas City is one of the best. We have a small town feel for how big the city is.
After roaming around Liberty Memorial grounds for a bit, we drove over to Crown Center to go ice skating. The session was just before Christmas so the mayor’s tree and all the Christmas decorations were up at Crown Center. Even though the ice skating rink was packed, we managed to find pockets of time where one corner was relatively empty. With such a busy ice skating rink, I decided to just let them do their own thing together. This is a big reason why I recommend choosing a meaningful place for your engagement session. Since Mariah and Rob go ice skating all the time, they were able to just live and enjoy a regular date night during their engagement photos.
Mariah and Rob circled the ice skating rink a few times, but then we jumped out to get photos with the Christmas set up at Crown Center. The massive Christmas tree made for a beautiful backdrop. Luckily, not many people were walking on the lawn by the ice skating rink, so we had that space to ourselves.
Once we were finished taking engagement photos, Mariah and Rob went back to the ice skating rink to have a real date night together. It was such a fun session!
