Taylor and Drew chose to have their engagement session at Union Station in Kansas City. Drew proposed to Taylor in front of the big Christmas tree last year, and the two often visit Union Station. It was the perfect location for their engagement session!
I always encourage my couples to choose locations that are meaningful to them. Personally, my husband and I did our engagements at a random apple orchard that we’d never been to and still haven’t been back to. If the orchard ceased to exist, I would have no attachment to it. If we had stayed true to ourselves, we would have done some photos at the movie theater we met at. We would have done some in our home with our pup, Sadie. Or maybe at the park we always took Sadie to. Maybe some on our college campus.
I started this encouragement for a meaningful location after reading a story. The couple had their engagement photos done at the restaurant where they met. The building burned down a few years later. But they will always have those photos to help them remember.
So when Taylor said Drew proposed at Union Station, it made perfect sense to have their engagement session there and at Liberty Memorial across the street. The view of Union Station is perfect from Liberty Memorial.
Taylor and Drew enjoy being goofy together. She told me their love language is laughter. So I brought out some tricks to bring that out of them for our session. I try not to intrude too much, to not overly direct so the candids can actually be candid.
I do this by giving a simple prompt so you have something to do and don’t feel awkward being in front of the camera. But the reaction to how the prompt plays out is 100% genuine.
